Hat matching the Chihuahua mittens

Since I had plenty of yarn left from the chihuahua mittens, I wanted to use them to make a matching hat for the mittens. I didn't want to include the dog or text motif, so I used the vine pattern from the cuff of the mittens.

I didn't use any pattern and to be honest, the hat design is based on the amount of yarn left which is why the "background" color changes in the middle of the hat. In fact, I quite like that! As a practice, I added a Latvian braid between the ribbing and colorwork. It is super easy and looks very beautiful! I recommend you to try it out.

I used the same Schachenmayr Merino Extrafine 120 in colorways 103 and 114 with 3.00 mm needles as with the mittens in the previous blog post. The Ravelry page of the hat is here.

Minulla jäi Chihuahua-lapasista melko paljon lankaa jäljelle, joten tein niistä lapasiin sointuvan pipo. En kuitenkaan halunnut laittaa hattuun koira- tai tekstikuviota, joten käytin pipossa lapasten ranteessa olevaa lehtikuvioita.

En käyttänyt ohjetta pipon tekemiseen ja ollakseni täysin rehellinen, pipon malli syntyi sitä mukaa miten paljon lankaa minulla oli jäljellä. Tämän takia kirjoneulonnan taustaväri vaihtuu kesken hattua, mutta oikeastaan pidän tästä yksityiskohdasta paljon! Harjoituksena lisäsin joustimen ja kirjoneuleen väliin latvialaisen letin. Yllätyksekseni latvialainen letti on hyvin helppo ja mielestäni todella kaunis! Suosittelen kokeilemaan sitä.

Puf Hat

I have to admit that even though I live in a relatively cold country, I haven't worn a hat in the winter for years. The reason is simply that I have never come accross a hat I would like. However, recently I visited my local yarn store Snurre in Helsinki, saw the most beautiful sample hat and fell in love with it. I picked up two skeins of a beautiful pale pink shade of Gepard Puf yarn and studied the sample hat carefully to be able to reproduce it myself.


I finished the hat in a few evenings with the thick yarn and 5.00 mm needles. I am very pleased with the result and now I finally have a hat to wear in the colder months! Check Ravelry project.

Vaikka asun kylmähkössä maassa, en ole käyttänyt hattua vuosiin. Yksinkertaisesti en ole vain löytäynyt itselleni sellaista hattua mihin rakastuisin. Jokin aikaa sitten vierailin kuitenkin Snurressa Helsingissä ja näin siellä maailman ihanimman esimerkkihatun ja rakastuin hattuun. Valitsin kaksi kerää kaunista haalean vaaleanpunaista Gepard Puf lankaa ja tutkin mallihattua tarkkaan niin, että pystyisin tekemään sellaisen itselleni.

Sain hatun muutamassa illassa valmiiksi, koska lanka on niin paksua ja käytin 5.00 mm puikkoja. Olen todella tyytyväinen yksinkertaiseen hattuuni! Nyt minulla vihdoin on ihana hattu käytettäväksi kylmempinä kuukausina. Projekti Ravelryssä.

The perfect double hat

Recently, I realized that my father would really need a new hat. I searched and searched through Ravelry without any luck to find a fully doubled brimmed hat made of thin yarn. Since the construction of a hat like this, essentially composed of a tube with increases in the beginning and decrease in the end, is rather simple, I decided to design the hat myself.

This is my first ever published pattern! The yarn is Filcolana Arwetta Classic (color 955) and I used 2.5 mm needles. The pattern is available for free in Ravelry. If you don't have a Ravelry account, please send email to me (outinkynnet (at) gmail.com) and I will send you the pdf pattern!

Jokin aikaa sitten huomasin, että isäni tarvitsisi uuden hatun. Halusin tehdä taitetun hatun ohuesta langasta, mutta en löytänyt ohjetta. Hattu muodostuu yhdestä tuubista, joka sitten taitellan reunuksellisen hatun muotoon, eli hattu on melko yksinkertainen. Tämän takia suunnittelin hatun itse!
